Advanced feature.
The sync manager provides advanced access to the synchronization between your POS and the servers in the cloud.
This is useful if your internet is temporarily slow or if you have trouble with syncing. It allows you to see what is being synchronized with the servers, to work offline, and to manually sync specific data. In most cases, this should be handled by one of our technicians. Call our office and we’ll help you out.
To access the Sync Manager, click the small up-and-down arrows at the bottom of the POS:
A popup will appear with the Sync Manager:
On the left side, you can see the number of transactions that have been uploaded to the server.
On the right side, you have several options:
Go Offline
To go offline, check the box for Set local mode towards the bottom.
This can be used if your internet is temporarily* slow and you cannot wait for the POS to connect to the server for every lookup. The POS will stop syncing with the servers and allow you to continue completing transactions using local storage (i.e. it will pull up the items, customers and transacted downloaded onto your computer or local drive, instead of loading from the internet).
You will be able to use basic checkout functions, including:
- Search items
- Search customers
- Scan items
- Complete transactions and accept payment. Credit card should still work if you have even minimal internet; it just won’t sync with the POS until you get back online
These will continue to operate while offline, then synchronize with the system as soon as your connection is restored.
- To go offline for a specific period of time, enter the number of hours in the box.
Note: If multiple computers are in use, it's possible for a customer credit balance to be overwritten. Refrain from adjusting balances while offline to avoid confusion. For the same reason, avoid using vouchers (gift cards) while in Offline Mode.
* Important: Local Mode is meant to be used only for a short period of time until normal internet returns. If your internet is frequently slow, resolve the connection so you can use the POS in regular online mode as it’s meant to be used.
Testing required! Test Local Mode outside of your store’s busy hours to make sure all your custom reports, etc. work as they should. Try completing transactions and pulling up items and customers. Call the office if you have any difficulty.
Manual Sync
If your internet is slow or data is not showing up properly, it can be synced manually. This is not for everyday use and in most cases should be done by an agent.
To sync only specific data, here are the options:
- Trigger sync up uploads the transactions (including sales and payments) to the cloud.
- Trigger sync down downloads items and customers (including account balances) to your computer.
Additional options:
- Full data resync deletes all local data and re-downloads everything.
- Restore sync service restarts the service if it got stuck – both and down.
- Force full resync on all local transactions starts the sync from scratch, even if some of it is already completed. It will skip data that has already been synced. This takes a long time.
- Clean up old transactions already on server cleans up the old transactions so it doesn’t sit there forever and frees up memory.
